Caryatid A female figure supporting an astragal-ovolo-abacus capital arrangement is a caryatid. The most famous of these Greek column designs is taken from the Erectheum in Athens (450 B.C.). A female figure with a basket or other capital form is a canephora. Male figures are either Atlas or Telamon figures. See also Persian and term. |
